Yvonne Klocek holds an MFA in Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York. Upon degree completion in 1982, she began her career as an educator, accepting a one year appointment to teach in the school's graduate photography program.
With a subsequent move to Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, she broadened her instructional portfolio to include classes in design and printmaking plus curatorial responsibilities. In 1986, Yvonne received the Stephens College outstanding Teacher Award.
Since 1988, Yvonne has taught in the Department of Art at Normandale Community College. Her areas of instruction include photography, design, drawing, mixed media, and printmaking. Inspiring students to see original, art masterpieces and experience culture through travel has become a recent focus. In 2000, Yvonne was selected to teach in the Minnesota Community College Study Abroad Program at Oriel College, Oxford University, Oxford, England. The Best of Italy in 2004; and Berlin, Krakow, and Prague in 2007; were two short term study abroad programs which followed. In addition, Yvonne developed Museums, Galleries, and Architectural Sites of New York City, a one credit class offered in 2006.
A recent sabbatical, which involved three months of travel in Europe, provides raw material for the ongoing series Printing Experiments. The commercial labs Yvonne relied upon to process film and custom print large scale, color photographs are transitioning to digital technology. Being caught in this “film/digital” divide became the impetus for a project devoted to experimentation.
Of her images, Yvonne remarks:
I am fascinated with the digital hybridization which results when merging a photograph with visual information commonly associated with printmaking. Photographically, this is an exploratory departure for me. It satisfies a reoccurring interest to enrich my artistic expression through media integration.
